1. Overview of NetConX Plus Accelerator

How does NetConX Plus Accelerator work?

The NetConX Plus Accerlerator accelerates your Internet access through proprietary text and image compression, content caching and other network optimizations.

What types of content does NetConX Plus Accelerator speed up?

NetConX Plus Accelerator significantly speeds up web page access. To achieve this speed up, proprietary lossless compression is applied to text, html, xml, javascript and style sheets. Proprietary image compression is applied to gif images, jpeg images and Flash content.

NetConX Plus Accelerator does NOT speed up file downloads (over FTP or file sharing programs), streaming audio/video and HTTPS (secure web sites).

3. Using NetConX Plus Accelerator

How do I start NetConX Plus Accelerator?

NetConX Plus Accelerator is launched automatically every time Windows starts. You do not have to launch it manually.

A NetConX Plus Accelerator icon appears in the Windows system tray to show that it is operating in the background.

How do I change the image quality for a particular image?

Right-clicking on an image within Internet Explorer and selecting "Show Original Image" allows you to view the original image. Selecting "Show All Original Images" allows you to view all original images on the entire web page.

How do I change the image quality setting for all images?

Right-click on the NetConX Plus Accelerator taskbar icon and select "Settings". Select the "Image Quality" tab. Adjust the slider bar to the desired image quality setting. Press OK to save the changes.

What do the statistics displayed in the Statistics dialog mean?

Consult the following table for a description of the values:

Original Data Size of the original (uncompressed) data.
Actual Data Amount of data sent by NetConX Plus Accelerator.
Savings Ratio Factor of reduction in data. E.g. A savings ratio of 4.00 means your connection is 4 times faster than a normal connection on average.
Text-based This row contains compression information regarding text-based content.
Graphics Contains compression information regarding graphical content.
Others Contains information regarding content that is neither text nor graphical.
Upstream Lists the total original and compressed amounts of data uploaded.

4. Product Details

How do I use Internet Explorer with NetConX Plus Accelerator?

Internet Explorer is automatically configured to use NetConX Plus Accelerator. Use Internet Explorer as you normally would.

How do I use other browsers with NetConX Plus Accelerator?

Netscape Navigator is automatically configured to use NetConX Plus Accelerator. Use Netscape as you normally would.

For other browsers such as Opera and Mozilla, NetConX Plus Accelerator works with any web browser that allows you to specify an HTTP proxy. You must set the HTTP proxy host to be "127.0.0.1" and the port number to be the local listening port of the Client (5400 by default). Consult your browser's documentation for information on how this can be done.

Does NetConX Plus Accelerator speed up my secure (HTTPS) transactions such as web banking?

NetConX Plus Accelerator does not accelerate secure transactions. Secure web sites will continue to work by bypassing the acceleration component. If you have a Secure application that you would like accelerated, inquire about the Secure product.

What operating systems can NetConX Plus Accelerator be installed on?

NetConX Plus Accelerator can be installed on any of the following operating systems:

Windows 95b w/ Winsock2
Windows 98
Windows 98SE
Windows Millennium Edition (Windows ME)
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000
Windows XP

NetConX Plus Accelerator requires at least Internet Explorer 4.0 and Netscape 4.0 or any later version of either browser.

Note that the Email Acceleration component requires Windows 98 and above, and that the Pop-up Blocker component requires Internet Explorer 5.0 and above.

Newer versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer are available free of charge through Microsoft here.

For Windows 95 users: Currently, Microsoft does not permit Windows 95 users to install Internet Explorer 6 or greater, however, Internet Explorer 5.5 is available.
