KLONDIKE DERBY
February 7th
Camp Ingawanis
Check in @ 8:30 AM
Separate challenges for scouts and senior scouts.
Each Boy Scout team will pull a sled, like used by the racers before them, loaded with the tools they will need to conquer a variety of tasks. From the starting line through a number of cities they will complete these tasks, which will be given to them by the mayor of the city. They will also be judged on the cooperative efforts and not speed in completion of each task.
Be Prepared
Build a sled. All Scout patrols a required to build a sled, Webelos any sled or toboggan with a box mounted on it will do. Next start practicing those Scout Craft and Activity skills, the more you practice, the better your skills could be homed in to helping your team strike it rich. So "Show me the money!"
Adult Leadership
Remember it's two deep and at least one must be 21 or older, oh yeah they can cheer you on and observe your progress, but if they help you out your team may be given a bit of the cold shoulder when it comes to panning out your winnings.
Patrol Flags
BIG COLORFUL EXCITING- Okay so the men of the Yukon may have not used patrol flags, but here there is a contest for them so is sure to have one with you at the start.
Clothing-see be prepared
Okay February in Iowa is one of those goofy time of the year when we could have all sorts of different types of weather. Be sure you plan out what you may need. Gloves, thick socks, stocking hat, and long under may be quiet inviting on cold day. Make sure you are comfortable, that could make the difference between a long day and a long fun day. Improper footwear could disqualify one from participating.
Health and Safety
First aid will be available at the health lodge if the need arises. STAY OFF THE RIVER. Unless you can walk on water in any state your team will receive no benefit from being on it this time.
Insurance
Health and accident insurance is an individual, parent, or unit responsibility. The Winnebago Council carries no health or accident insurance on its members.
Each Scout team will be awarded five extra points (nuggets) at their first city if they bring, open, and place, five small cans of soup into the "Yukon Stew" pot. Please no tomato, pea, oyster, or clam chowder. Webelos soup is provided. AT noon, teams will eat at the city they find themselves. The meal will consist of Yukon Stew, plus food brought from the equipment list. Teams will have a half an hour for lunch. Webelos are encouraged to bring a lunch, however no points will be awarded for their meal. Soup, Hot Chocolate, and cooking fires, will be provided for the Webelos at the mealtime.
